Alfredo Campoli was born in Rome in 1906. He came to London at the age of 5 and was giving concerts when he was 10. He first played the Wigmore Hall in 1923 and went on to find international success. He was the first to perform Bliss's Violin Concerto written especially for him. He died at his Berkshire home in 1991. The signature is on a programme for a concert in 1973 where he was performing, as usual, under his surname only.
